FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

How do I place an order?
Please email me at joyce@cakesinabox.com or fill out my contact form. Note that I do not take orders via Instagram, Facebook, or over the phone. Keeping everything over email helps me stay organized and ensure that no details are missed.

How far in advance do I need to place an order?
I require a minimum of two weeks’ notice for all orders, and during wedding season (May through October), it is recommended that you book at least a month in advance.

For wedding cakes, please get in touch a minimum of three months’ notice; wedding season fills up quickly!

Keep in mind that depending on how many other orders I have during any given week, I may be able to accommodate rush orders. Don’t hesitate to ask!  

How much do cakes and cupcakes cost?
As I create custom cakes, the cost of your cake will depend on a number of factors, including its size, design, and flavour. Estimates can be provided via email.

To give you an idea, custom cakes generally start at $11.50 per serving. Slab cakes (undecorated cakes that are meant only to be served and not displayed) are $4.85 per serving.

Cupcakes are $50 per dozen, and mini cupcakes are $50/2 dozen.

How big are your cakes?
My cakes are however big you need them to be! This depends on how many servings you need. All cakes are made of four layers of cake and contain three layers of filling.

Tiered cakes are also available!

Are you able to replicate this cake exactly like the one I saw on Pinterest?
Cakes are works of art, and as such, I cannot copy the work of another cake artist. With that said, I am happy to use your cake inspiration as a starting point to make something similar.

Do you provide cake tastings? What about consultations?
I do offer cake tastings! They come in the form of a dozen cupcakes, and you get a choice of four flavour combinations (three cupcakes per flavour). As for consultations, they are conducted via email so that we can both ensure no details are missed!

Please note that cake tastings are reserved for those who are interested in wedding cakes only.

I need a gluten-free/nut-free/dairy-free cake. Can you accommodate?
I can accommodate, though please note that I cannot guarantee that there won’t be cross contact since I work in a space that has gluten, nuts, and dairy. I can nonetheless do my best to properly sanitize all equipment!

What if I need my cake delivered?
Delivery is available, and is dependent on distance. Generally, set-up of your cake is included in this cost.

Pick-up is free of charge, from my kitchen at 1740 West 2nd Avenue.

What’s the best way to serve my cake?
Cakes are best served at room temperature. If your cake has been refrigerated, please allow your cake to sit out at room temperature for a minimum of two hours prior to serving. Just make sure the buttercream is soft; it’ll be ready to eat then!

Please be sure to keep your cake out of direct sunlight and away from any heat sources.
